3 Reasons To Like St. Patrick’s Day
Don’t worry. I get it. The loud crowds, the drunken hooligans…the amateur partiers who
feel they are required to be drunk on St. Patty’s Day. I live in Manhattan and NYers know how to celebrate this holiday pretty well. I get frustrated by all these things too but here are three reasons why you should like St. Patrick’s Day:
1. It unifies people.
Maybe only for an hour…maybe the full day. If you have the luck of the Irish on your side, you might find a lifetime friend. That is definitely something to be happy about. People also rally around Irish heritage on St. Patty’s Day whether you ate actually Irish or not. This year I saw someone wearing a green shirt that simply read “O’bama” on the chest. Keep celebrating your Irish heritage, Barack. 😉
I don’t think there is much to say here (unless you hate bagpipes) but I have lots of memories that involved bagpipes. Personally, bagpipes make me think of a great friend who passed away far before he should have but that motivates me to work harder on Coach-Ed Inc., the cystic fibrosis charity that we’ve started in his name. Instead of a funeral, Edward chose to have a party to celebrate life and celebrate we did. With bagpipes.
3. They are celebrating life while you are complaining. Nobody likes Debbie Downer anyway. You are too busy wasting your time thinking about how bothersome the hooligans are to notice that you just lost some time out of your life that you can never get back. Lose money? You can make it back. Fight with a friend? You can repair the relationship. Wasted or lost time? Gone forever.
Don’t blow off your priorities so that you can join the party for no reason but take some time to really celebrate life….and do it regularly. The show will be over sooner than you know it so make sure to live it up and join the Irish for the occasional drink.
